We have a variety of rules (mostly guidelines) on how we run the Weekend Mixed. These rules help us create a fair and friendly enivronment for everyone.
The following is information about "What to Do When You are Not Able to Play (Finding a Spare)", Postponing a Game" and "What to Do When You Team Has Snack Duty"
What to Do When You are Not Able to Play - Finding a Spare
Each player is responsible for finding a spare - if they are not able
to play. Please notifiy your skip - so they will know who will be
sparing. If you cannot find a spare, notify your skip - so your
skip knows and can determine if the game can still be played or if the
game must be postponed; or, maybe, they can help you find a spare.
A Weekend Mixed Spare List is available here (click on the Spares tab at the bottom), on the Weekend Mixed Board at the the Club and on the back of the Weekend Mixed schedule.
If you want to spare in the Weekend Mixed, please sign-up on the Spares List on the Weekend Mixed bulletin board or contact Jill Blyth. We'll add your name to the Spare List.
Weekend Mixed Spare Rules
- Maximum of two spares per team per game.
- A spare may "Call the House", or "Skip", the game - but a spare may not throw the teams's 7th and 8th stones.
- Alternating female/male order should be maintained if possible/applicable.
- A Weekend Mixed member may spare as often as they want.
- A Granite member may spare as often as they want - but is
limited to a maximum of three games for a particular team in each
round.
- A non-member is limited to sparing three times - total - though the curling season.
Postponing a Game
- If your team must postpone a game, it is your skip's responsibility
to notify the opposing team skip - in advance of the game - and to
reschedule this game. If your team does not notify the opposing team in
advance, your team gets 0 points and the opposing team get 3 points.
- A win "by default" is not in the spirit of curling - and
every attempt should be made, by both teams, to accommodate
rescheduling of the game.
- Ties, for postponed games, will not be permitted (if the
game is not made up). If all reasonable efforts to reschedule the game
fail, the postponing team will have to take the loss.
- The use of spares in a postponed/rescheduled game is allowed. But all spare rules - as outlined above - apply.
Weekend Mixed Make-Up Ice
The Make-up Ice Schedule is posted on the Weekend Mixed Board. If
you need to make-up a game, sign-up for an open spot. And
book/reserve/confirm all make-up ice with Ann Campbell, Club Manager or call 613 722-1843 - otherwise there is no guarantee the ice is available nor that the Club will be open.
Please Note: Section B, C and D have an open sheet - which can be used for make-up games. Check the schedule to see when they are playing and check with Ann Campbell, Club Manager or call 722-1843 to see if the open sheet is available.
Things To Do When Postponing a Game
- Call the other skip - in advance - to let the opposing team know.
- Call the skip of the team providing snacks - so that they know there will be one less table to serve.
- Donate your ice to the list of make-up ice available. Add it
to the sign-up sheet on the Weekend Mixed board and advise Ann
Campbell, Club Manager that your ice time is now available.
Things To Do When your Team has Snack Duty
- Provide and serve a snack for the members of your division curling that evening
- Run the 50/50 draw - tickets and an envelope for the money for the Weekend Mixed draw can be obtained from the bartender
- After the draw, please put the 50/50 money in the envelope and
seal the envelope. Write the date, "Weekend Mixed", your Section # and
the amount of money on the front of the envelope. Please give the
envelope to your division Section Rep or to the bartender, if your
Section Rep is absent.
- Clean up any snack related dishes you have used, tidy up the kitchen area you used and take home any unused food!!
If you have any questions, see your Section Representative
