It is possible to join the club online but new members of Granite Day Ladies must also sign-up for individual competitions of your choice on the Day Ladies bulletin board in the ladies locker room at the Granite Curling Club.
Who Joins the Granite Day Ladies Section?
-
Women whose home or work schedule frees them for curling games at 9AM and/or 1:30PM on various weekdays of your choosing.
-
Women of any age who wish to learn a new sport - every year the Granite Day Ladies section welcomes "green" curlers.
-
Women who wish to return to a sport they played many years ago - returning curlers are surprised to find that the shoes are warmer, the games are now 8 ends, brushes have changed and there is no need to lift the rocks!
-
Women who are new to the city and are looking for a friendly place to curl during daytime hours.
-
Women who wish to make new friends, participate at a recreational or competitive level and enjoy a friendly visit after games.
Our Membership
Nicki Quintero, Membership Chairperson, reports that our membership for 2007/2008 - present is 82 Day Ladies including 8 new Day Ladies members. There are also social members, women who have retired from active curling. The social members comprise a large portion of the Wednesday afternoon bridge group and they also join the active curlers for social events throughout the year. The social ladies bridge group needs spares. Many members of the Day Ladies Section also curl with other sections of the Granite Curling club such as the daytime mixed, the evening open-fixed and the evening ladies.
Curling Instruction for New Members
Marg Stewart provides curling instruction at no additional cost on Fridays at 1:30 PM throughout the year for any day lady who is interested in this service. Members new to curling and returning curlers wishing to improve their game are welcome and encouraged to attend. Practice ice for Day Ladies is available most Friday afternoons.

Schedule and Description of 2007/2008 Granite Day Ladies In-House Events |
|
|
|
Saturday, 02 June 2007 |
|
The following events occur throughout the year, the sequence of which will be determined by the Day Ladies Rink Committee.
New members and members of long standing may sign up for as many in-house events as they wish throughout the year. Registration and membership does not place a Day Ladies member in a particular draw. Members, new and old, must sign individually for each draw as they are progressively posted throughout the year. Sign-up sheets are posted (with dates of each event and closing dates included) on the Bulletin Board in the Day Ladies locker room well in advance of events. Reminders about sign-up sheets are also circulated in Day Ladies E-bulletins and in the schedule below on this web page. Please do not sign up for a draw when you know that you will miss more than two games. Please sign as a spare instead as spares are always needed. If you need a bye on a specific date, write down the date and place it in a designated envelope that is posted on the bulletin board.
